SsangYong’ becomes half Sri Lankan with Micro Cars

Micro Cars Limited the sole automobile manufacture announced recently its venture into assembling of SUV’s under technical collaboration with south Korean motor giant SsangYong.
Accordingly the company already had commenced to assemble Micro Rexton 11 and Micro Kyron aiming Sri Lankan market and other countries in the SAARC region.
Speaking to Rear Mirror Micro Car Chairman Dr. Laurance Perera said that venturing into assembling of the SUV’s is one small step taken by the company to march into the world of mass transportation net work.
“We are the first Sri Lankan company to design and manufacture our own motor car and by doing that Sri Lanka become 14th country in the world to do that. Our next step was to penetrate into world of mass transportation. For that we designed country’s first economical rail solution but unfortunately it did not worked out due to unfavorable barriers prevailing in the country. On the other hand due to the fact for our success in designing and manufacture of our own car we received international recognition. ” Chairman Micro Cars Limited Dr. Lawrence said.
He said that because of this reason the internationally acclaimed funding companies namely UK based Park Lane and Ideal Group came forward and invested US$2 million in the project. The two funding companies fully committed to develop the automobile sector in Sri Lanka through Micro cars in partnership with Ssanyong Motor company.
Ssanyong is specialized only to manufacture of SUV ‘s with technical collaboration of Mercedes Benz. The main feature of the Ssanyong SUV is that they are made on a off road ladder where as there are many SUV in the market which are made on common rail chasis. said Dr. Perera.
At present we operate to a capacity of 15 units per month and expecting to increase to 50 units per month in time to come. The assembly process also involves 36% local inputs including full interior leather finish, exhaust and battery are manufactured in Sri Lanka.
Speaking on the two models Dr. Perera said that Micro Rexton is going to be a hit on the local roads as it comes with Rs.7 million price tag all inclusive with diesel engine.
The Rexton is comes with 2.7 litre five cylinder turbo intercool diesel engine assited with five speed triptronic gear box.
The Rexton11 stands apart with its stunning good looks starting up front with SsangYoung’s trade mark grille, unique bonnet charattor lines and projection head lamps, with the powerful performance to match their sophisticated appearance. Added the chrome side garnish and yet simple refined tail lamp assembly and perfectly balanced design that make the driving truly special.
Inside of the Rexton 11 bring a world class craftsman combing with good quality material combination. The stunning leather interior finish which is entirely done in Sri Lanka also reflects what Lankans can do if given right tools and materials. In its control panels this SUV offers high brightness LED black face gauges. The roomy interior dominated by rich black tones give a stunning interriro look.
In its power train this SUV offer 270XDi diesel engine with 3rd generation turbocharger cranks out best in class 165ps. The inbuilt sophisticated direct injection that boosts power and fuel efficiency for cleaner more economical operation.
In its transmission Rexton comes with Mecedes Benz madeT-Tronic 5 speed automatic transmission with thumbs up manual shift feature. In its suspension Rexton offers double wishbone with impact absorbing 8 link independent suspension. Besides the Rexton 11 offer many more other features that cannot be matched for price of Rs.7.5 million, a dream come true.
The other model that Micro assemble in Sri Lanka is the Kyron x’ transition.
Armed with 2 litre diesel engine with 5 speed t-tronic automatic transmission this SUV design to give more to its owner. Distinctive exterior sets the Kyron apart from the SUV. The front features SsangYoung motor’s trade amrk triple line radiator grille while the side view is dyanamic and ready for action. According SsangYoung the frotal design inspired by the look of knight’s helmet, includes a unique assembly of clear headlamps , with amber directional indicators. The rear is adorned with a sporty looking spoiler with LED stop lamp. In side the Kyron offers a coupe sport feeling. Once again elegent finishing materials and craftsmanship bring out the Kyron truly future path of Sri Lanka's motor industry.
