Microrobots & Nanorobots have immense use in biomedicine. There were in existence for quite some time. These are useful in biosensing, targeted drug delivery systems and many more. The existing MRI devices can be used to navigate these robots using Magnetic Field Gradients.
Also in-vivo surgery is possible using nanorobots. The first nanomotors capable of cutting deposits in heart arteries were developed by the Israeli scientists a long ago but the filteration of the cut material was the problem.
Also note that there are limitations on the usage as the immune sytsem could attack the robot before it does it's job. Additionally the robots need to be coated with nickel, cobalt, and iron to impart magnetic properties. So the biocompatibility needs to be studied and asessed. So it's a long way to go. 👍
