MapPoint ® 2010 gives you the power to visualize business data and communicate insights with instant impact. Before you hit the road, plug in your stops and MapPoint plots the most efficient course with turn-by-turn driving directions. MapPoint 2010 with GPS Locator adds routing and directions to easily plan your trips and track your location in real-time.

System Requirements
* Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP
To use Microsoft MapPoint 2010, you need:
* PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed
* Windows Vista: 1 GB of RAM
* Windows XP: 256 MB of RAM
* Windows Server 2008: 512 MB of RAM
* Windows Server 2003: 256 MB of RAM
* Note: 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Server excluded.
* Service packs for operation systems recommended
* Certain features require Internet Explorer. If not present, Internet Explorer will be installed but will not replace your primary browswer.
* Available hard-disk space: 1.9 GB (some users may require up to an extra 300 MB)
* DVD-ROM drive or Internet access
* Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution monitor
* Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse®, or compatible pointing device

Additional items or services required to use certain features:
* For Voice Output: any of the operating systems listed in the above system requirements and a compatible soundcard
* Microsoft compatible email software such as Microsoft Office Outlook required to use Send to Mobile and Sent To as attachment; Office Outlook 2003 or Office Outlook 2007 required to use Send To as picture
* Broadband Internet service recommended for certain features; a payment of a separate fee to an Internet service provider may apply.

Microsoft MapPoint 2010

Microsoft MapPoint is both a technology ("MapPoint Web Service," previously known as MapPoint .NET) and a specific software program created by Microsoft that allows users to view, edit and integrate maps. The software and technology are designed to facilitate the geographical visualization and analysis of either included data or custom data. Numerous acquisitions (Vexcel, Vicinity Corporation, GeoTango, etc.) have supplemented both data and feature integration.

MapPoint is intended for business users but competes in the low-end Geographic information system ("GIS") market. It includes all of the functionality of the most recent version of Streets and Trips, the consumer mapping software, at the time of development, as well as integration with Microsoft Office, data mapping from various sources including Microsoft Excel, and a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) interface allowing automation of the MapPoint environment.

The MapPoint technology is used in
* End-user desktop software:
o MapPoint (for North American and Western European business users)
o Microsoft Streets and Trips (for North American home users)
o Microsoft AutoRoute (for Western European home and small business users)
o Encarta encyclopedia (Atlas functionality)
* Web-based services:
o The Bing Maps website maps.bing.com
o The Microsoft Virtual Earth development platform
+ The MapPoint Web Service using SOAP XML
+ The Virtual Earth Map control, an ActiveX control, which lets users make requests via javascript to an AJAX map object
