Govt admits Mihin losses 3500 million By Dilrukshi Handunnetti Mihin Lanka has incurred a loss to the tune of Rs. 3,500 million so far Leader of the House Nimal Siripala said yesterday. He added that Sri Lanka was trying to lease two aircraft to Mihin Air. The lack of aircraft with the debt ridden controversial Mihin Air was raised in parliament yesterday (6), with Leader of the House, Nimal Siripala de Silva surprising the House by claiming that he had no knowledge about the matter and cryptically adding: “I can’t walk into the hanger to count the aircraft.” Responding to an oral question by UNP legislator Ravi Karunanayake on Mihin Air yesterday morning where Karunanayake has also requested for the corporate plan of the said airline, de Silva said, “The corporate plan contains sensitive information and its disclosure might retard the progress of the airline.” When persisted by Karunanayake for a response, he said that it would prove detrimental to the airline to disclose such sensitive information. De Silva noted that the airline had two aircraft “at the time the question was submitted for answer.” When pressed by Karunanayake as to why the government could not disclose the corporate plan of an airline that no longer possessed any aircraft and hence would not be required to disclose any sensitive information, de Silva said that he could not answer that as he did not count the number of aircraft the company had. Raising a supplementary question, JVP frontliner Anura Kumara Dissanayake alleged that the controversy surrounding Mihin dated back to the time of its formation and claimed that the then Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera had admitted in parliament that he had no idea about Mihin Air being launched despite being the minister in charge. “This is a terrible situation. Both aircraft have been taken away and today Mihin has no aircraft to fly,” Dissanayake noted. --------------------------------- Is this Mahinda Chinthanayes Rata Pereta ????? can a sane person justify this ????
