A deputy minister’s official phone bills are under scrutiny by the Minuwangoda police over a ransom issue.

The deputy minister is alleged to have threatened and demanded a ransom of Rs. 25 million from a businessman in Minuwangoda.

The Police are at present scrutinizing the minister’s official telephone bills, according to the minister.

A senior police officer told Ceylon Today when the matter was raised in Court on Friday (16) Minuwangoda Magistrate granted permission to the police to scrutinize the Deputy Minister’s official telephone bills.

A businessman in Minuwangoda had complained to Minuwangoda police that the accused Deputy Minister had threatened him and demanded a ransom over a land transaction. The Police who earlier sought permission from courts have established that the telephone in question is an official one issued from a ministry.
