Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Telecom Service Provider, announced today that it has successfully trialed 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro Technology which is capable of achieving speeds exceeding 1 Gbps.
Having launched the first Super-3.5G HSPA network in South Asia in December 2007, and subsequently trialed HSPA+, MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) in 2009, another first in the region Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel went on to demonstrate 4G-LTE technology also for the first time in South Asia in 2011. Keeping ahead with pioneering new technologies, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel has now trialed 4.5G LTE-Advanced Technology yet again for the first time in South Asia.
The prime factor behind the super-fast speeds demonstrated in 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro technology is the use of multiple carriers of spectrum to generate an aggregated spectrum block to deliver significant throughputs for end-users. The use of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) with higher order carrier modulation in LTE-Advanced allows easy upward scalability for higher bandwidth requirements, coupled with MIMO technology, which effectively uses multiple antennae in both the Terminal Device and radio network to transmit and receive multiple streams of information within the same spectrum. 4.5G Technology is claimed to bridge the gap between 4G Technology and 5G Technology, where 5G Technology is expected to be commercially available in 2020.
4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro Technology is capable of utilizing a combination of 4x4 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) ; Higher Order Modulation 256 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and up to 5CC (five-component carrier) to provide Gigabit speeds for end users. Mobitel partnered with Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corporation in conducting 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro tests in Mobitel’s test lab. With this trial Mobitel Joins the ranks of international giants like Vodafone, AT&T, Softbank, Telstra, Orange, China Mobile etc. in its commitment for LTE as the future technology.
Having successfully tested the 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro Technology, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel is looking forward to commercially deploy the 4.5G services to the nation for further strengthening the evolving ICT industry. In particular, a factor which distinguishes 4.5G LTE-Advanced Pro from other technologies is the improved quality of experience, due to reduction in latency. This enhances the user experience of time-critical applications such as Voice, Video and on-line gaming while extending potential benefits to businesses as well as Finance sector, by significantly reducing time taken on data transport for time critical transactions such as on-line trading and other financial transactions.

This is crap!! A company putting articles doesn't mean they are the first to launch!! Dialog performed LTE advance since years now!! All these can be achieved by carrier aggregation, and we've being using that term throughout last few years!! Surprisingly the person who has written this article has forgotten to use "CA or Carrier Aggregation" !! How funny.. Lol Mobitel as a company should be sued for using these kind of false information to gain customer attraction towards the services they provide!! Shame on you Mobitel!! Sad to say lot of my friends work there!!

South Asia’s First 4.5G Demo Clocks 1Gbps on Dialog’s LTE Network

(From left) Navin Pieris – Head of Business Broadband, Pradeep De Almeida – Group Chief Technology Officer of Dialog Axiata, Azwan Khan – Group Chief Operating Officer of Dialog Axiata, Shunli Wang – CEO of Huawei Sri Lanka, Vasabha Bulathsinhala – Deputy CEO, Huawei Sri Lanka at South Asia’s first 4.5G demonstration.

Sri Lanka established yet another milestone on the region’s Broadband Technology landscape today with an exposition of South Asia’s first 4.5G demonstration featuring download speeds in excess of 1Gbps (Gigabits per Second).

The ground breaking technology capability test was carried out on the Huawei Technologies’ LTE infrastructure of Dialog Axiata, the country’s leading 4G Network Provider. The demonstration established the capability of the network to deliver throughputs in excess of 1 Gbps on the LTE Radio (Air) Interface, setting a solid foundation for the future evolution of the nation’s 4G services to a technology generation well ahead of neighboring markets.

Following the 4.5G technology capability test, Sri Lanka joins a select circle of 20 Countries where 4.5G capabilities have been demonstrated.

In 2014, Sri Lanka became the first country in South Asia to Launch Commercial 4G services, when Dialog Axiata launched its pioneering 4G services on FD-LTE and TD-LTE technologies. Dialog’s 4G LTE networks have since evolved to deliver burst speeds up to 100 MBps and provides a population coverage in excess of 50% with respect to ultra-high speed 4G services. Following aggressively in the footsteps of the company’s 3G-HSPA network which provides a population coverage in excess of 83%, Dialog’s 4G LTE Services are expected to provide ultra high speed broadband coverage to all populated areas of the country in the near future.

The ITU names Sri Lanka as exhibiting the lowest broadband tariffs in the Asia Pacific Region, while Akamai, in its report of ‘State of the Internet – Connectivity’ points to Sri Lanka leading the region if not the world in terms of the affordability, availability, quality and inclusivity of broadband services.
