Synopsis
A writer (Ewan McGregor) reluctantly agrees to finish the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan), after which the person was doing, he had spent many years as Lang's assistant, died in an accident. The writer takes a flight to work on the project, in midwinter, in a house by the sea of an island off the U.S. east coast. However, the day after arrival, a former British cabinet minister Lang accuses it of allowing the illegal capture of terrorist suspects and handed over to the CIA for torture, acts which are considered war crimes. The controversy attracted reporters and protesters flock to the island mansion that houses Lang with his wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams) and his personal aide, Amelia Bly (Kim Cattrall).
