Message: <blockquote data-quote="lkdood" data-source="post: 3175518" data-attributes="member: 92282">Stepping up the pressure on the UPA government, an all-party meeting in Chennai on Tuesday threatened that MPs from Tamil Nadu would quit within a fortnight if the Centre did not take action on stopping the Sri Lankan army offensive in Tamil areas of the island. A resolution to this effect was passed at the meeting convened by the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.  The meeting, attended by DMK, Congress and Left parties besides some other parties, was boycotted by the main opposition AIADMK, its ally MDMK, BJP and the DMDK.  The meeting urged the Centre to take effective steps to stop "the violence unleashed on Tamils" within a fortnight. Citing media reports of India supplying arms to Sri Lanka, another resolution asked the Centre to stop it immediately.  India should take all steps to put an end to the ongoing ethnic strife in the island nation and ensure peace in "Eelam", the resolution said.  Expressing concern for the Tamils, the leaders said the Centre should supply humanitarian aid to Tamils and help in their resettlement. The meeting also resolved to request the Centre to take the help of International Red Cross to "channelise" aid to Tamils to ensure it reaches them properly.
