I have updated the BIOS to ver. 2.0 but still the SATA HD does not appear neither in CMOS nor in Windows MyComputer.

Probably I may have to update the Chipset Drivers as well. Currently in progress. Let you know once the update is over.

Just saw the post, Had similar problem with my p4 ASUS board with same SATA chipset.

As far as I know this Sata controller only support SATA 1 (sata 1.5Gb/s ) so if you Hard disk is SATAII (3.0Gb/s) that can cause a problem, as some Harddrives needs manual config to make it SATA1 compatible (My Maxtor is also this type). They have a jumper to select SATA1 only. If hard disk wants such config it should be on the sticker on top of Hard disk.

Try checking the net to find is there such jumper setting to your Hard disk model.

But my problem was even doing that i was unable to use it on my p4. (But doing that I was able to see the hard disk detected to my system, and funny thing was it worked like a READ ONLY device on my pc !! - means Hard disk worked perfectly on other pc's, bt on my pc i could only read files written by other pc's ) I tried all the things from drivers to BIOS update, but non worked. Think it is because of a failed sata controller.

So only thing i could do was to buy a SATA to IDE convertor, its a small circuit board plugs to one of you IDE ports, it has a SATA connector port on it. I found one at Unity Plaza for about Rs1300 or something about 4 months back.

Ah forgot to ask, DID YOU checked your bios for any setting to "ENABLE" Sata???
(not sata RAID) because thats the first thing to do.

BTW sata convertors here are very fragile, if you're buying be cautious with pluggin cables to it (it has sata port and a power input from a 4pin hard disk power connector-molex). Cos i broke my convertor's sata port, had to solder it ! and put super glue for extra protection, but that happens only if youre pluggin it on and off)

Apart from that sata -ide convetor works ok, its just like using a IDE hard disk.

Thank you very much for your contribution.

The BIOS does not have SATA Enable, which means I cannot connect a SATA HD directly.

My SATA HD is Hittachi, it does not mention anything about SATA 1 or SATA 2 nor it does have any jumper setting.

With this SATA to IDE converter can I connect the any SATA (1 or 2) HD to the motherboard and use the same without any problem.

Well usually all SATA2 HDs are backward compatible with SATA1 by either automatically or by manual jumper config.

Best way is to check your Hitachi HDs exact model and see on web whether it supports SATA1 (most probably it will). Anyway whats ur HDs model and capacity ?

Convertors usually can be used without probem, but as i mentioned better be cautious when handling, as its easily breakable. Apart from that it works fine.

One slight problem with sata convertor is it takes one IDE port completely,-means it directly fits to the IDE port on Mobo, so you have only one sata port from one IDE channel (No 2 HDs on 1 IDE port, as in sata theres no Master and Slave doulbe channels) that mean if you have 2 IDE ports on your mobo, you can use upto 2 sata HDs (on 2 sata-ide convertors ) .

On a sata-ide convertor Sata HD works just as a normal IDE HD, speed is also the same if not faster than a IDE.

this is the one i got from unity:

Anyway if you got any prob please ask, happy to help you out. :)
