Multi tasking/applications in Non Symbian Nokia phones

Can non-symbian Nokia phones running s40 (5th ed.) system run multiple applications (java ) at the same time ?

i mean they can play music while doing some other work, but can they run 2 or more java applications, play music and at the sametime we type a SMS ?

This is actually regarding phones like Nokia 5610 with Series 40 5th Edition UI , any 5610 user plaese comment.

Sony ericsson phones has a application key that can be used to switch between running applications, but i havent seen such key in a NON-Symbian nokia phone.
