Muttiah Muralitharan could yet play a part in September's Twenty20 World Championship, in spite of straining his bicep during Lancashire's drawn match against Kent.
The Sri Lanka spinner was forced off the field on the first day at Canterbury after bowling 33 overs when he strained his right bicep, and the early signs were that he would be out of action for four or six weeks. However, no decision on his participation in the tournament will be made until Muralitharan returns home to Sri Lanka tomorrow.
"We got the results back today from Leeds and basically it is just showing some inflammation around the bicep,'' Sam Byrne, the Lancashire physio, told PA. "We're sending the scans back with Murali to Sri Lanka and they'll manage it and constantly reassess it over the next week.''
