The government has decided to remove with immediate effect Southern Provincial Councillor Nishantha Muthuhettigama who was in the centre of controversy from his post of Akmeemana organizer in the Galle district, UPFA sources said last night.
However, the UPFA sources told Daily Mirror that Mr. Muthuhettigama was yet to be expelled from his SLFP membership.

The party has initiated disciplinary inquiries into him for making remarks critical of the government and President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“We cannot remove his SLFP membership that easily. We have now charge sheeted him. We are waiting for his response to the charges made against him. If he is proven guilty, we can remove him from the party as well,” sources said.
In addition, the government has also decided to appoint Ramesh Pathirana, the son of late Minister Richard Pathirana, as the new Akmeemana organizer.
Ramesh is a doctor by profession.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the UNP has also approached Mr. Muthuhettigama for a possible political alignment at this hour.
