This was taken during the full solar eclipse in 1973. On August 11, 1999 during another total eclipse three concordes one by Air France (AF4500) and two by British Airways (BA99S and BA91N) were the only civilian aircraft able to chase the eclipse. Reaching speeds of Mach 2 they were able to stay in the shadows umbra over Europe for 4 to 8 minutes. During this eclipse the shadows umbra was moving at about Mach 2.3

Diavik Mine

This one is for all you people that watch Ice Road Truckers on tv. This is the Diavik Mine in Northern Canada, about 300 km from Yellowknife. Diavik employs over 700 people, has its own airport that can handle Boeing 737’s, and produces around 8 million carats or 3,500 lb of diamonds annually.
