I personally don't like Cannon much

D3100 got lot of improvements.. like

• New 14MP CMOS sensor (D3000 got 10.2 MP CCD)
• Wider ISO
• 1080p24 video
• Live View
• HDMI output
• Full-time AF mode (AF-F in live view)
• Revised focus screen (different AF point illumination)
