Can CAA reveal the concentration of Afolotoxin and SLS inform us the recommended limits of Afolotoxin.
As far as I know SLS do not have standards for Afolotoxin for coconut oil (I do not know whether they have such for any other food item). CAA had done a propaganda work , but this is a chemical that is found on fungi that had spread wide spectrum of items.
Due to our poor quality of harvesting, processing, storage it is nearly impossible to eradicate this fungi. So this fungi is present in lot of nuts such as ground nuts, peanuts, corn, and even on rice!
First we need to recommend a standard, then only we will be able to remove an item that is below standard.
CAA may have done some thing wrong. There are 14 Afolotoxins and only 4 are harmful to humans. So what is the percentage of those harmful afolotoxins?
When we have people at the top seats who go after media this is the result.
There was a research done by Uni of Pera on this but this was not pear reviewed to get due recognition. May be CAA used that to target this brand, but my pint is without a proper standard for this item one cannot remove this item(eg what happened to Edna Chocolates, during Melamine issue. It was banned but High court held that it was illegal)
Follow the science behind this. This is not added substance such as preservatives or other approved chemicals but a chemical secreted by fungi, that gets in to nuts due to our traditional methods of making copra and storage of that. It is hard to remove this depending on the process.
