The newly appointed Australian High Commissioner Ms. Kathy Klugman held talks with Army Commander Sarath Fonseka at his office in the Army Headquarters yesterday morning.
Australian High Commissioner Receives Update on Security Developments
“She was anxious to receive an update on the current security situation in the country vis-à-vis security developments in the Wanni and North where offensives, meant to liberate the Tamil civilians under terrorist grip are on. Lieutenant General Fonseka outlined measures taken by the troops to restore law and order after evicting terrorists from those areas. He also briefed the visiting delegate on the steps being adopted to receive displaced civilians who vacate un-cleared areas and reach the security forces,” the Army Headquarters said.
Ms. Klugman who had earlier served as Deputy High Commissioner for Sri Lanka was accompanied by her deputy, Ms. Sophia Mcintyre during her visit to the Commander.
