New traffic plan for Dehiwala on June 6th and 10th

A new traffic plan will be in effect on the 6th and 10th of June for vehicles passing the Dehiwala area in order to ease the traffic congestion that could occur due to the construction of the flyover bridge at Dehiwala.

Alternative routes are introduced as a trial as per the recommendations issued to the Ministry of Highways and Road Development by the Project Director of the British construction Company which has undertaken the construction work of the flyover.

The alternative routes for each vehicle category noted below and are effective from 7am to 10am on June 6th and 10th( two days).

Heavy Vehicles (Lorries, Containers, Bowsers)
Via: Katubedda- Piliyandala- Borallesgamuwa- Kohuwala- Pamankada to Colombo

Intercity Bus Services
Maliban Junction- Attidiya- Bellanthara- Pepiliyana- Kohuwala- via Thunmulla to Pamankada and to Colombo

Private Vehicles
Heading for Colombo: - Kawdana Rd. - Dharmalankara Mw.- Hill street- Karagampitiya- National Zoology Rd.- Atapattu Mw.- Galle Rd.
Leaving Colombo:- Municipal Rd.- National Zoology Rd.- Karagampitiya- Hill Street- Union Place- Kawudana Rd.- Galle Rd.

No route change in normal passenger bus services

The flyover at Dehiwala, kicked off construction work in April. It will enable 40,000 vehicles to pass everyday in two lanes. After the completion the flyover will be 337 metres in length and 7.35 metres in width.

The estimated cost of Rs. 870 million for the project is borne by the Government of Britain.
