Food Recall Notification
The New Zealand government has issued a recall notice on 4 AUG 2013 for the infant formula products:
Nutricia NZ Ltd Karicare Infant Formula Stage 1 (0-6months)
Batch numbers: 3169, 3170 Use By: 17 06 2016, 18 06 2016
Karicare Gold+ Follow on Stage 2 (6-12months)
Batch numbers: D3183 Use By: 31 12 2014
These products are sold in 900g cans.
According to press reports, these products have been shipped throughout Asia and stocked in many grocery stores.
Nutricia Ltd is recalling the above products following notification that contaminated whey protein concentrate used as an ingredient in these products may have been contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria. This bacteria produces a neurotoxin that causes botulism.
There have been no reports of illness, however, if you have been using this product to feed your infant and your child and your child shows any signs of illness, please contact your healthcare professional. We recommend that those having these products and batch numbers in their shelves, dispose of them immediately.
