I will briefly tell you my story to give you some indications of what I had to go through and will give you my thoughts on what you would be better off doing.  I moved to NZ with my parents when i was 17 and I am 31 now. i lived in NZ for 8 years and then moved to Ausi back in 2011 and since then happily living in ausi (My parents are still in NZ though). This is my story in nut-shell. It all changed after I met my GF back then and now wife). I was without a job for 2.5 half years and had applied for over 1000 jobs. My intention is not to discourage you but to give you an idea so you can be prepared. I can give you some ideas about how to apply for jobs and stuff if you do decide to come from my experience.considering your situation, I think NZ would be the best choice for your wife and Ausi for you. it is tough for medical professionals (with overseas Qualifications) to get the Australian registrations and find work. Exam is very tough to begin with and passing rate is pretty low. (I know this well because my wife is a doc and she is still trying to find work. She had couple of attempts at clinical exams with no luck and she has been unemployed for 3 years now (Not to scare you, we have a little one and she was mostly busy looking after the little one too). unless you are prepared to go to very rural areas, it is tough to find that first job in main cities for health Professionals. From what I heard, NZ is a little bit easier as the competition is far less compared to aussi. Cost for the exams (considering clearing them out in the first attempt) will be about $10000 if not more. As for you, Software eng/IT filed have more opportunities in ausi as people I know in the similar fields are all employed compared to some of my friends in NZ some of whom have given up working in that field and doing Odd jobs. (this may well come down to the way they approach hunting jobs as well. so don’t be discouraged).  if you compare cost of living in NZ vs Aus, Aus is much better(depends on where in Aus of course. Syd/Mel on the higher side compared to Bris Pert). you can actually save some after your expenses whereas in NZ, it's a little tough. I am not sure how old you are and if you have any kids/ thinking of having one soon etc. But I strongly recommend where ever you go, leave your wife in SL until you settle down as your wife wont be ably to get in to her field straight away and exams are fairly expensive (Unless your current financial state is strong enough and secure and you can survive on one salary untill she clears the exams). Or if you both come together and she has no issue with doing part time work, then thats fine. but you wond have the freedom of moving anywhhere when you have a family. (ada call karala kivvoth heta hena dotte job ekak thiyanava kiyala, if your on your own you can easily commit you know)  once you get there try to find a part time, and then start looking for the jobs in your field. if you want to get into you field right away and if you dont find anything , that can demoralize you a lot. it wont be hard to find a part time either in NZ or Ausi (i.e shops, factory, cleaning)  just to give you an idea, pay scale for most part time jobs in Ausi is about $20-22 per Hr and $13-15 in NZ. if you work about 20hrs that will be just enough to pay ur rent and expenses as you would not have to use your money from SL. (this considering ur living by yourself.) As some members have already suggest, search on seek.com.au and seek.co.nz for relevent job opportunities but dont waste your time applying as I have never heard of anyone who scored a job through seek while they were living in SL. Also, once you decide which city you are going to, search for Softaware/IT companies and make a list of their contacts. its a big move moving countries and as I said a few times my intention was not to scare you but to give you some awareness.
