Working committee member of the Asgiri chapter Venerable Madagama Dhammananda Thero says that he strongly opposes the move to organise night races in the sacred city of Kandy.
He further stated:
“This is being organized without taking into consideration the requests made by the Mahanayaka theros. The President removed prisons from the city in order to make it a sacred city not a race track. We condemn this move as it goes against the president’s vision. We would like to urge the authorities to act to protect the heritage and cultural importance of this sacred city.”
The races are scheduled for June 27 and 28.
