National Institute of Engineering Research and Development (NIERD) has introduced a new method for building construction that can reduce the present cost by 50%.
NIERD says that the new method introduces a combination of cement, clay and stones instead of the presently used combination of cement, sand and, stones for the building construction.
According to the NIERD engineers, cost of manufacturing cement brick using sand is about 38 rupees while the new system can produce the same with clay at about 20 rupees. Also, the cement needed for the plaster is drastically reduced when cement and clay bricks are used, said the engineers. High heat absorption capability of the clay controls the heat inside the building reducing the electricity bills for air conditioning, the engineers added.
A model building has been built in the NIERD premises in Ekala and the technology is given free to the public.
