Sri Lankan government is in need of over 10 billion rupees to cover the additional expenses in the coming months.

The government today presented a supplementary estimate of Rs. 10.66 billion submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Finance Minister seeking parliamentary approval for the additional money.

Presenting the supplementary estimate the government said the additional funds would be used for the repayment of loan interests obtained by them during the past few years.

The government further pointed out that the revenue income of the past year has been dropped by Rs. 132.6 billions.

Meanwhile, the parliament passed the supplementary estimates of Rs. 34 billion yesterday for the Defence Ministry, Army, Navy, Air Force and the Civil Defence Force. These funds were sought to pay the compensation to the disabled soldiers and the family members of those who died in the war.
