The “first affordable flagship,” the Nokia Lumia 830, has been announced at IFA 2014 by Microsoft’s Devices and Services group. The device features an impressive camera and pretty decent specs for quite the affordable price.It comes with Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft Office, OneDrive, Cortana, and more. Microsoft is up-playing the fact that Windows Phone 8.1 allows for much customization to the interface like with the new “Glance” lock screen.The camera has a 10MP sensor and Microsoft’s thinnest optical image stabilization module to date. Microsoft claims that the phone produces “fantastic images” with its sensor, comparing it to the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S5 and claiming it to be at the same level (if not better). There are a lot of new camera features available as part of the Lumia Denim update as well, all of which should be beneficial to Lumia 830 photographers. Features like Dynamic Flash – letting you turn flash on and off after you’ve already taken an image – and Rich Capture are part of the package, which makes us have faith in the camera of the phone from early impressions. Photo sharing features are available through OneDrive, Lumia Storyteller, and other apps.There’s a new Selfie app from Microsoft that allows you to use the rear camera to take selfies, in case the other new Lumias aren’t what you’d like to buy. It makes noises until your face is centered, and gets you a super high-quality selfie result.Microsoft has developed a new screen sharing accessory that operates with NFC-enabled Lumia devices to let you project your screen to the big screen. It has a really long name, as those Redmond people just had to call it Microsoft Screen-Sharing for Lumia Phones HD-10.Wireless charging is integrated into the Lumia 830, which, by the way, has removable and swappable back plates. Microsoft has announced a second-generation wireless charging plate (the Smart Wireless Charging Plate) as well, with an added “glow” and NFC capabilities. Because of the inclusion of NFC, you can customize that glow to be different by different types of notification. It requires a Windows Phone 8.1.1 device with Bluetooth 4.0, and will be available in green, white, and another color.All new Lumia smartphones also come with three free months of a Skype Worldwide Unlimited subscription, too, and Cortana has tied in to the app as well.The Lumia 830 has a pocket-friendly design, yet still has a quad-core Snapdragon processor and weighs just 150g. Microsoft has gone as far as to call it better than the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5s, as it is available for just 330 EUR – much less than those other two flagships.
