If you found yourself underwhelmed by the performance that the 9800 GX2 provided, Nvidia’s new GeForce 9800 GTX could be the graphics card for you with its lower price point and single GPU.

We’re not expecting the GTX to be faster than the GX2 by any means but hopefully we see it perform well against it as well as showing some competiveness against AMD’s HD 3870 X2 and the overclocked 8800 GT which gives us similar numbers to the standard clocked G92 8800 GTS 512MB.

Those numbers revile the framerate of each card when playing Crysis in various resolutions......

Framerate=How many frames are played in a second...The more frames the more smooth the gaming experience.......
Resolution=The amount of pixels....The more the better quality.....

well well, i still wouldnt buy a 9800GTX, wonder why they put a geforce 9 moniker on the same G92 core, nways anyone would be better off buying a 8800GTS 512MB or a 8800 GT for a few bucks less and OC it to achive almost the same results, but well see.

Note: the 3870 X2 is slow on crysis cuz of its crossfire driver sux, im sure when it polish out itll be faster than the rest of the bunch

I asked in a earlier thread how good Foxconn cards are because they are relatively new to the market...

Guess that question has been answered.. comparing the framrates of 9800s..foxconns over clocked 88k has a pretty good performance....

Thinking on this.. I bought an Asus 8600GT last week instead of a Foxconn... :(..well

All are the same.....warranty, life and some differences.....Manufacturers like Evga,XFX tend to use better components resulting in slightly better framerates.....

Machang..I'm always wondering...is over clocking really worth the effort.. ?

Because the more u over clock the quicker the card heats up..so the performance decreases the hotter your card gets..

So on the long run why isnt it more stable to use your card as it is without over clocking, which will giv u a stable performance... Rather than over clocking it which will giv u a better performance for a shorter period of time bt will drop when the card begins to heat up quickly

    any help ?

Also can I over clock my 86k to givout a 88k normal performance ?

Only thing you can get in SL is the 7600GS for that price....Also 8500GT which has better architecture but slower than the 7600GS......

    Get
    7600GS for games
8500GT for watching DVDs HD videos etc........

Overclocking is more of a fun thing, when it comes to VGAs. On CPUs, maybe it gives a valid reason, if you consider the 50% or more overclocks most people are getting with the current Core 2 chips. For example, E6320 which is about USD180 can be overclocked to 3GHz easily, which will give the same performance of the X6800, which retailed for over USD1000.

Yes, overclocking will heat up the card, but it will not lower the performance, unless something seriously goes wrong with the card and it starts throttling.

You forget one important thing though. Consider the 8800GTX vs 8800Ultra. 8800Ultra is basically an overclocked 8800GTX. Everything else is identical. If nVidia sees it perfectly safe to overclock, why can't you? Why should you pay nVidia about USD150 to overclock your card by 10% or so, when you can do it yourself, for free?! Do you think the 8800Ultra will have a shorter lifespan than the 8800GTX? Would you be paying more bucks to get a card which dies faster? No. Overclocking, if done with care, will not cause any problems...even in the longrun. And I don't think people are willing to keep any PC component for 5 years. :D

You can never get the performance of a 8800 series card by overclocking a 8600 series card. Well, you can, if you overclock the core to like 2.5GHz and memory to like 5GHz...which is impossible LOL.
