NVIDIA announced its SHIELD Tablet last week, at the same time starting taking pre-orders for the device. As of today, the new tablet is properly available to buy, and you have to pay $299 for the privilege of owning one. Mind you, this is the 16GB Wi-Fi-only version of the SHIELD Tablet. An LTE-capable model with 32GB of internal memory will be released sometime later, costing $399.
According to NVIDIA, the SHIELD Tablet is “the first with the muscle to handle the technologies that make PC gaming great” - thanks in no small part to the fact that it features a 2.2GHz Tegra K1 chipset with a 192-core Kepler GPU. The powerful CPU and GPU are complemented by 2GB of RAM, an 8-inch display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, stereo speakers, NVIDIA DirectStylus 2, 5MP rear and front-facing cameras, and Android KitKat.
NVIDIA is also offering a Shield Wireless Controller and a Shield Tablet Cover, but these are being sold separately, for $59.99 and $39.99, respectively.
