Premium sports network ESS (ESPN Star Sports) says they will offer extensive coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games with more than 3,000 hours of coverage which includes round-the-clock coverage on ESPN, Star Sports, ESPN HD and ESPNEWS during the Games.

The 2012 Olympics will be held from 27 July to 12 August.


ESPN & Star sports plans to broadcast around 30 hours of live action every day.


Highlights, news updates & interviews from the games will also be part of the Olympic coverage plans.


The coverage will also comprise of 10 new high-definition channels covering the Olympic Games live. In addition, key events will be showcased in 3D for the very first time on the ESPN Star Sports 3D channel.
ESPN & Star sports will also show more than 600 hours of build up coverage of the games including programs on Olympic history.

ESS channels ESPN & Star Sports are currently available on DIALOG tv, PEO tv & LBN.


SLRC (Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation) is the terrestrial broadcaster of the 2012 Olympics.

Talking about the strategy of covering the event in India, ESS India senior director business development and event management group Rathindra Basu said, "Overall, we have rights to broadcast 240 hours of programming every day for the duration of 15 days which makes it almost 3,600 hours of programming. We will customise our feed especially for the Indian sports fans. The plan is that we will be showcase live broadcast of Olympics on three networks - ESPN, Star Sports and ESPN HD."

"Star Sports will be showcasing sports like Gymnastics, Equestrian, Volleyball etc. The content of Star Sports will be more pan-regional. ESPN HD will be a blend of above two channels, showcasing many of the Indian athletes as well as best of sporting action from around the Olympics," he said.

The aim, he added, is to offer a complete and comprehensive presentation of the Games, hosted by ESS' studio presentation team in Singapore, as well as a team of reporters on-ground in London to deliver in-depth news updates, interviews and stories.
