The new Opera version (9.5) has impressed in speed in an early test version. They compared it to the old version, IE and Firefox using Java.

Firefox and IE scored both pretty bad compared to the old version. Firefox loaded in 1213ms while IE loaded in 1240 which was the worst result in the test. The old version of Opera (9.23) made 546ms and the 9.5 version at a blistering 281ms. That's 5 times faster than the competition.

Firefox passes the test in 475-525ms in my PC. It is in fact faster than Opera 9.23.

But here is the catch. I'm using the 64bit Firefox. 32bit Firefox takes more than 1s to render in those tests. But then there is another problem. 64bit Firefox doesn't support Flash :S

I'm yet to try opera 9.5, will try when the stable version comes. :)

But even earlier versions of opera is faster than firefox, atleast on the first few days when it was not loaded with tons of bookmarks and extra settings.

Optmized Firefox builds are as fast as the Opera 9.23 :)

I meant firefox on a 32bit machine. But opera got slower with use. Firefox on my machine is only for show, I rarely use it.

On linux, firefox has different loading speeds, generally firefox should load quicker in linux than windows, but firefox on ubuntu loads slower than windows. In the case of debian's firefox(iceweasel), It's very fast. :S

I also mean the 32bit optimized version. You can download them from http://www.vector64.com/WindowsBuilds.html
(both 32bit and 64bit versions are available...for Thunderbird as well...)

Opera browser loads faster than Firefox anyway...

Opera does the rendering faster that others, but is this version stable ????

Hey what about fire fox. i don't think any one is using IE neda....

An alpha might not be stable, but I'll say it should be OK for use. :)
I'm going to wait for a stable version (or atleast a beta). Seems I can wait, still on Opera 9.01

IMO Firefox is getting vulnerable, the problem is is plugins, also various toolbars now can be installed on it. Also it's getting slower and slower. :(
