Release of Legends of Sri Lanka
We all know that all proud, great and old continuous civilisations in the world have had own unique legends in their history.
As the history had been written only recently, (except the Chinese Zhu Dynasty records in China and Mahavansa in Sinhale(Sri Lanka) which are world's two oldest history records), many of these legends remain fascinating mythical stories which are usually used as fairy tales for the children and quoted in many folklores.
Yes our children learn them, all except our own ones, in preschools and primary. (action heroes like Hercules, Achilles, Hector, King Arthur, Mythical animals like minotaur, and Dragons etc).
Well, as many of us were unaware, we also have had such pre-historic legends in Sri Lanka. During the last 500 years, during the regional rebellions and then European colonialism, many of these legends disappeared from the educational system and the media in SL.
One proud Sri Lankan Army ex-serviceman, a man of few words and a lot of action, who had been a stunt rider, guerilla & jungle warfare expert for the army, had carried on a research for the last few years, painstakingly collecting data by visiting every strange corner of Sri Lanka to bring together the amazing legends of SL in one compilation. This is his life time achievement he is leaving behind for his motherland. and he is my father-(mjayaratne).
Please have a look and help preserve our heritage for all future Sri Lankans, may they be of any ethnic identity, or having any religious belief or any social group. This is every such Sri Lankans proud responsiblity and heritage.
The book is published by S.Godage and Sons in SL.(tel-685369, email - [email protected], website- www.godage.com)
The book is too expensive for many Sri Lankans. But Sri Lankans living overseas can afford it. The author gets only 10% of the price on a quoted no.of books publisher says that he had published. Author has no way to verify that number. So this is not a commercial venture for the author who wants this book to be the first step in reviving the hidden legends of SL.
