Sri Lanka President Awarded with Honorary Doctorate in Moscow
The awardees include 5 Presidents and 2 Prime Ministers from around the globe.
Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been awarded with “Doctor Honoris Causa” yesterday by the Peoples’ Friendship University of the Russian Federation, for his outstanding contribution towards fostering world peace and his success against terrorism.
The Honour Award for the Sri Lankan President was given at the the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations held at the Great Kremlin Concert Hall, Moscow.
Head of the University Rector Professor Vladimir M. Filippov presented the President with Honorary Doctorate at the ceremony.
President Rajapaksa addressed the audience following the conferment. The conference hall was fully packed with more than 6000 invitees from over 100 countries. Several world leaders, including Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo also attended the ceremony.
Yesterday morning President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his delegation was received at the Vinukoa International Airport, in Moscow who is on a three day official visit to Russian Federation.
The delegation includes Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Minsters Prof.G.L Peiris, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, MP Wimal Weerawansa and the Secretary to the President Mr.Lalith Weeratunga.
During President Rajapaksa’s three day official visit, there will be a bilateral discussion with his counterpart President Dimithri Medvedev. He is also scheduled to hold talks with former President and the present Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin, other government officials and the business community.
