Similarly there was a time when pop3 protocol (post office protocol) was used for emails. still now it is used , (but now most of the emails are sent and received from the web). pop3 protocol requires a software to send and receive emails. and obviously you need an email account which has the facility of pop3. Gmail and hotmail supports pop3. (i am not sure that hotmail supports pop3 for 1gb accounts or not)  Outlook Express , thunder bird , incredimail and famous pop3 software. I recommend foxmail , because it is free, easiest to use, and has a beautiful interface.Benefits of pop3 :-1) Send emails with embedded images     There is a difference between simply attached image and     embedded images. Embedded image behave like html      emails. you can add description/ text with them. which      is impossible with attached images.
