Pierre Spies, who last year had seemed certain to become one of the Springboks' stars of the World Cup, will renew his rugby career with the Blue Bulls this week when they travel to New Zealand for Super 14 games.
Spies, who ran England ragged from No 8 during their two-match series in South Africa last June, was subsequently laid low for six months after a pulmonary embolism was diagnosed.
Although the cause has never been established, Spies has been given the all-clear and has flown to New Zealand to join up with the Bulls.
His return will boost the defending Super 14 champions, who have struggled this season. After victory over the Stormers in the opening week, they have won only one of their past five games.
