Five ministers of the Eastern Provincial council including its Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan have written to President Mahinda Rajapakse asking for the removal of the Governor for Eastern Province Mohan Wijewickrama. They have stated that the governor intervenes in the internal affairs of the council, doesn’t support devolution of power and ignores elected members when taking decisions. According to reliable sources the letter had been sent to the President on 15th July but no action has been taken in this regard yet. Pilleyan has accused the governor of trying to run the show by himself and said they would have to take a drastic decision if the present governor is not removed and replaced with a person who could maintain a good rapport with the members of the council.
