Confirmed sources say that the Government plans to crack the whip on those who have expressed their support for General Sarath Fonseka. Among those facing Government wrath over the expression of their solidarity with General Fonseka are a well known Buddhist monk, a web site owner, active politicians, retired servicemen and those currently serving as servicemen. The plot to have them arrested has been hatched with the co-operation and knowledge of a few key members of the Government.

The sources further confirm that the plan to arrest these civil society members has been put into motion to sabotage General Sarath Fonseka’s political campaign. Deploying scare tactics to slow down the General’s success is of paramount importance for the Government and its henchmen; a politician who recently crossed over from the UNP, a former service commander and a few senior servicemen are said to be spearheading the plot. The plan also includes keeping the police on tab and ensuring that police action will be minimal in the event of such arrests, confirm sources.
