M3 High Speed Internet is a high speed data connectivity service which will enable you to download and upload large files at very high speeds no matter where you are, provided that you are within 3.5G coverage. M3 High Speed Internet is powered by HSPA-one of the latest evolutions in wireless data transfer technology
What is HSPA?
HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) combines the features of HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) enabling you to access data at speeds up to 14.4 Mbps Downlink and up to 1.98 Mbps Uplink, on devices supporting HSPA.

If you are a high data user that intends to access the Internet solely with a modem, and are highly dependent on sending and receiving large volumes of data consistently, M3 High Speed Internet on Post paid packages will offer you the most economical and technically suitable solution. You can select from a range of three packages, offering different speeds and different volumes of data.

Whenever you need to access high volumes of data, for short periods of time, you can simply subscribe to 3G Daily Delight options and enjoy data for the period of subscription. Although you can use either a phone or a device with this subscription, you may need to use a USB modem to realize the full benefits of this option.

M3 High Speed Internet on Mobile
If you are generally a low or medium level data user who wish to access the internet while on the move, through your mobile, rather than investing in a separate device, M3 High Speed Internet on Mobile will be a fitting solution for you. You can enjoy data speeds up to 1 Mbps on uplink and downlink and a free data bundle depending on your monthly subscription. The rate applicable for excess usage will be Rs. 0.01 per kB.
If you find that M3 High Speed Internet on Mobile does not meet your requirements (the volumes you generally access are far greater and this tariff structure is not economical enough), you can always select one of the Zoom packages.

How can I join M3 High Speed Internet Services?
You will have two options to join in:
Option 1
You can purchase a new SIM and subscribe to M3 High Speed Internet Services by selecting either a Post Paid or the Pre Paid plan especially designed with the different requirements of subscribers in mind. You will be able to enjoy speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on Downlink and 1.98 Mbps on Uplink.
Option 2
If you already have a subscription to either a Mobitel GSM Pre Paid or a Post Paid Package, you can enjoy M3 High Speed Internet on your existing connection without changing the existing SIM. Your existing SIM will be High Speed Internet ready and you will be able to enjoy speeds up to 1Mbps both on Downlink and Uplink. However, if you wish to access internet at higher speeds, you can always subscribe to a Post Paid package of your choice and enjoy speeds up to 7.2 Mbps on Downlink and 1.98 Mbps on Uplink.
Will I have to pay for the time I am logged on to the network or only for the actual data usage?
You will only have to pay for the actual data usage, irrespective of the time you have spent logged on
The data usage is calculated for Downloading or Uploading or for both?
The data usage is calculated both for uploading and downloading.
What can I do with 100MB of data?
You will be able to retrieve approximately 1000 Emails, download 25 MP3 Songs or browse over 300 web pages.(These are just indicative figures and the actual values may vary depending on the size of each unit illustrated in the above example)
What are the factors that affect uplink and downlink speeds?
The uplink and downlink speeds you experience may be different from the maximum speeds given under the plans due to following factors:
- The mobile device you use
- Type of the application
- Network traffic at the location at the time
- Website or the servers being accessed
After obtaining a subscription to a M3 High Speed Internet plan, how can I start using the service?
You will require a device belonging to one of the following categories:
- Category 1Laptop Computer with Built-in HSDPA facility.
- Category 2A 3G Phone (Preferably with built-in HSDPA facility) and a Laptop or a Personal Computer with a USB 2.0 compliant port meeting the system requirements of the above device.
- Category 3An HSDPA modem either with USB interface (USB Modem) or PCMCIA interface (Data Card) and a Laptop or a Personal Computer with a USB 2.0 compliant port, meeting the system requirements of the above device.

I am currently enjoying a Zoom 512, Zoom 1024, Zoom 3600 or Zoom 7200 package. Will that be disabled due to the new packages available?
No. You can still continue to use your Zoom package.
I have a Zoom 512, Zoom 1024, Zoom 3600 or Zoom 7200 package. How can I upgrade to the new Zoom packages?
If you wish to upgrade, just visit any of the Mobitel Service centre outlets mentioned.

Will I be charged if I switch from the previous Zoom package to the new Zoom package?
If you upgrade to the new Zoom packages before 31st January 2009, the package switch will be free of charge. However, if you upgrade after this date, the normal package switching cost of Rs.100/- will apply.
How Can I check my usage?
Your usage can be checked through your online account on the Mobitel corporate website at

Will I be able to Roam internationally with M3 High Speed Internet?
Yes, you will be able to enjoy roaming with networks in the countries listed
here with which M3 High Speed Internet maintains roaming agreements.
What are the charges applicable whilst on roaming?
The charges that are applicable whilst on roaming will be in compliance with the tariff structure of the network on which you roam.
Can I experience the same uplink and downlink speeds when I am roaming?
The speeds you experience whilst on roaming may vary depending on the network, the websites or servers you access and the network traffic at that moment.
I am a Post Paid voice / video (3G mobile phone) user who wish to access data/ internet with a M3 High Speed Internet plan. What are the charges applicable?
If you are a regular 3G mobile phone user, who wishes to access data/internet with your phone connection, the applicable tariff structure will be as follows:

What are the system requirements of a PC in order to support HSDPA devices?
The system requirements will vary depending on the make and type of the device. Most of the Laptops or Personal Computers in use today, are capable of supporting them.
Generally, a personal computer (Laptop or Desktop) with the following configuration would meet the requirements:
- Processor 1 GHz or advanced
- RAM 512 MB or advanced
- Free Space 100MB
- OS - Windows 2000/XP/Vista
However, the above configuration should only be used as a guideline and it is advised to ascertain the compatibility of the system requirements of the device with the computer you intend to use before purchasing.
If you are using a Laptop/PC running on a different OS (Apple Mac etc.,) please check with the modem manufacturer's specifications for compatibility.

Do I need to install special software on my Laptop / Desktop Computer to use?
Yes. You will have to install the software bundle (CD) provided with the device in your laptop or Desktop Computer. Most of the USB devices will have the software built-in and will automatically install with the first use. Please refer to the device manufacturer's instructions before using.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a 3G phone to connect to M3 High Speed Internet?
You will be able to save on the amount invested on a Broadband device by using your 3G mobile phone as the modem. Presently all 3G mobile phones will support speeds up to 384 kbps and there are some models with built-in HSDPA facility offering higher speeds (up to 7.2Mbps).

Where can I use M3 High Speed Internet?
The M3 High Speed Internet service is available in Colombo Metropolitan area and almost all major towns across the country. The coverage expansion is steadily underway.
How can I know whether I am in 3.5G Coverage?
If you are using a mobile phone, a special icon located next to the signal strength bars will indicate when the phone is within 3.5G coverage. If you use a Laptop or a Desktop computer, the application software will indicate whether the device is within 3.5G coverage. The indication may vary from device to device, but will generally carry the letters 3G or HSDPA. In addition, an LED indicator on the device will flash in different colours (the flashing colour may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer) depending on the state of the connection, HSDPA, EDGE/GPRS. Generally a blinking LED signifies that the device has detected the network but on standby while a continuously shining LED indicates an active connection.
What happens when I move out of 3.5G Coverage?
When you move out of 3.5G coverage, you will be transferred seamlessly to EDGE or GPRS depending on the service availability of the base station you have been locked into, subject to handset configurations. The data sessions in progress will continue but you may feel a slower data speed available under EDGE or GPRS.
