The indication may vary from device to device, but will generally carry the letters 3G or HSDPA. In addition, an LED indicator on the device will flash in different colours (the flashing colour may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer) depending on the state of the connection, HSDPA, EDGE/GPRS. Generally a blinking LED signifies that the device has detected the network but on standby while a continuously shining LED indicates an active connection.

When you move out of 3.5G coverage, you will be transferred seamlessly to EDGE or GPRS depending on the service availability of the base station you have been locked into, subject to handset configurations.
