Sri Lankan police say they have arrested two Iranians accused of smuggling more than 2 kilograms of methamphetamine into the country.
Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said narcotics officials detained the men when they arrived at Colombo's international airport. A search of their luggage uncovered 2.7 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Iran, Pakistan and other South Asian countries are a fast-rising force in the global methamphetamine market, with drug cartels thriving off the weak governance and law enforcement that have long fueled the region's heroin trade.
The men could face life in prison if convicted of drug smuggling.
