Police are searching for a group of men - believed to be Tamil Tigers supporters - who doused two men in acid at Westmead overnight.

The men burst into the home on Alexandra Avenue shortly after midnight and attacked two men aged in their early 20s.

Both have severe burns to the face.

Family members say they are Sinhalese Sri Lankans and were celebrating the government's victory in the country's civil war.

One of the men was also stabbed and has a broken ankle - his cousin says he's in a bad way.

“I just came from hospital and the way he was looking was very bad,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.

“I don’t know what to say. He doesn’t deserve something like that.

“They’re really innocent. They mind their own business. They never, ever come into any fights or anything.”

Two burnt with acid during Westmead home invasion

The end of the Sri Lankan civil war is believed to be behind a violent home invasion in Sydney's west which has left two men with acid burns.

A group of four to five men broke into the home in Alexandra Avenue, Westmead around 12am Monday, smashing windows and attacking the people inside.

Two men aged in their 20s had acid poured on their faces. One was also stabbed and had his ankle broken.

The cousin of one of the victims says it was an attack by Tamil Tigers supporters on his family, who had been celebrating the end of decades of civil war in Sri Lanka.

"The main reason these guys are angry is because we won the war," he said.

The two victims were taken to Concord Hospital, with a 27-year-old man now in an induced coma.

A third person was inside the home but he was uninjured and is currently giving a statement to police.

The attackers reportedly fled in a black sedan
