A policeman shot dead his girl friend and took his own life in the Puttalam area today evening.
The police identified as Mahesh Heenkenda, 24 had visited his girl friend at her house in Kiwala, Puttalam and opened fire at her. She passed away at hospital.
Family sources said that the policeman had objected to the girl who had been selected for higher studies to continue her studies. She was identified as Dilrukshi.
The policeman who was deployed at the residence of a High court judge had used his service weapon for the shooting.
