A woman believed to be mentally unstable jumped the security barricade and attacked the pope as he was delivering the midnight mass at St. Peters Basilica. The woman attacked Pope Benedict XVI as he walked down the aisle to deliver the Christmas Eve service.
The pope who was unhurt from the attack was quickly helped off the marble floor to his seat.The woman has been arrested by the vatican police. This is the very woman who tried attacking the pope last Christmas but was blocked by security according to Father Federico Lombardi the Vatican spokesman.
One cardinal, Roger Etchegaray(87) was knocked in the process breaking a leg and he is right now in hospital.
