Patali Champika Ranawaka has long been recognized as one of the most experienced, capable, and prudent parliamentarian, minister and political leaders Sri Lanka has produced. His contributions—particularly in policy formulation, infrastructure development, and strategic thinking—have demonstrated a level of foresight and responsibility that is rare in contemporary politics.
Unfortunately, his absence from the current Parliament is a serious loss to the nation. At a time when Sri Lanka is facing complex economic, social, and governance challenges, the country can ill afford to be without leaders of proven competence and integrity. This outcome reflects not merely an individual electoral result, but a broader weakness in our political culture, where long-term national interest is too often overshadowed by short-term sentiments.
The loss of his parliamentary position is not just his misfortune—it is an unfortunate setback for the nation itself. History will judge that at this crucial juncture, Sri Lanka missed the opportunity to benefit from the leadership of a statesman who could have made a meaningful difference. At this time, the country has lost not only a mature, pragmatic, and prudent parliamentarian, minister, and political leader with excellent mathematical, scientific, environmental, economic and financial, political, and universal knowledge, but also the patriotic, talented professionals and youth who were born around him through free education.
