you looks to be a reductionist (in the sense of preferring everything clean and uncluttered) :) :)

I thought I was the only one who would like an unclutterd desktop.

I'd like to know what's that important shortcut you can't part with. ;)

I currently have shortcuts for photoshop, opera, win explorer in addition to some project related folders. The default icons (my documents, ie, my computer recycle bin) are also there.

Who needs shortcut links when there are shortcut keys? :D The only shortcut on the desktop pointed to the unorganized junk. But, that is also organized than most people's desktop LOL. Only have about 10 elemetns inside it. It's like my temporary store.

BTW habits are difficult to get rid of, I'll be keeping some shortcuts and forget the keys

Of course XP has them, but at a mediocre level, so I'm using a keyboard macro tool called AutoHotKey. Yes, it's an additional program, which you might not like to have jsut for this purpose. But it can do a lot of things than load programs and open folders using shortcut keys. It has a huge help file. It's pretty much like a programming language. Well, a scripting language is more accurate.

Thanks for the info, As you guessed, I'll not be using such a program.
I'll keep my habits intact until I install vista myself. VirtualBox was a good idea to try vista.
