It`s been while guys.... No "New" cars this time either, but for the first time in my life, I've ventured in to the wonderful world of motorized two wheelers! A group of friends who ride dirt bikes took me with them one fine Sunday.. I`ve never even sat on a Dirt/Trail bike before, but tried a few of the bikes out and Bingo! the rest is history.. Took a punt on a Honda CRF 250L at a local auction. I haven`t seen the bike in person, had no idea whether it was running, didn't know how many kilometers on the clock, no service history etc.. Here`s a few pics from the Auction site. This is a fuel injected 250cc with ABS etc.. : Taking it home using a friends` bike trailer: The battery was dead, tried charging for a couple of hours, but it was obvious that it was gone beyond repair. Jumped the battery with my car battery, turned ignition on, was pleasantly surprised by the 689 kilometers on the clock! So we now have a near new bike that wont start! Installed a new battery, it would crank fine, still no luck starting. I could see some rust in the fuel tank when looking from the top. Took the fuel tank out, there was a couple of liters of dark brown crap in there, didn't look anything like petrol. :D So our main problem is rust in the tank. No rust holes or anything, but the internal walls had so much surface rust that's clogged the fuel pump as well. Here`s the state of the fuel pump, no need to say that the filter was 95% blocked and full of crap as well. My best guess is that this bike has spent a few years without getting used. Condensation inside the tank can easily rust a petrol tank from inside out. Disassembled the pump and spent a few hours cleaning, put it all back together and tested, the pump seems to be running fine. Put it all back together with some fresh 98 Octane petrol and the thing started up the first time!! So we now have a running bike making great noise from a genuine Yoshimura exhaust..! Still haven't installed all the plastics, will take a few more pics when it`s completed. Next plan: do a full service (air filter, oil filter, engine oil etc... ), and get it road registered... may need to address a few minor issues before registration, need a new rear tail light since the LED light installed by the previous owner is not bright enough etc...

Got some stuff for bike service today... Genuine air filter, oil filter, oil filter gasket and crush washer.. These bikes are made in Thailand, so looks like the parts are from Thailand too.. Apologies for posting on a car related thread, got quite enthusiastic about my first DIY bike service. :D Is there a good bike thread here?
