While stating that he doesn’t think the Trade Unions (TU) and employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will cause a blackout, Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge, awaits to find out their next move.

He made this statement during a media brief yesterday (01).

“I don’t think the employees of the CEB will cause disruption to the electricity supply. Lets see what they do tomorrow,” said Lokuge.

When further inquired by journalists whether Lokuge can assure that no disruption would happen, and compared sentiments expressed by Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila, Lokuge responded by saying that Gammanpila has been mistaken.

“Gammanpila is mistaken. He says he is against the handing over of 40% of the shares to New Fortress Energy Inc, whereas the thermal power plan in Kandy was operated by the Americans. It was only recently taken over by the Japanese. Was he comatose then?,” asked Lokuge.

He went on to explain that the CEB requires only 10% of the electricity supply from Kerawalapitiya now, and further stated that no one raised their voices when the Kelanitissa Power Plant was taken over by the Japanese.

When inquired whether the Yugadanavi deal was an illegal transaction, Lokuge responded by saying that it was only an opinion by those opposing the deal, and an answer will be given in due time.
