President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Australia a short while ago to attend the Commonwealth Heads of State meeting, the Department of Information said.
The President leads Sri Lanka's delegation to the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth which begins on October 28.
Among those accompanying him will be External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris and Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga.
The summit – with this year’s theme being 'Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience' -- will examine issues faced by all of the Commonwealth’s member countries, especially the most economically vulnerable states.
At Friday’s summit, a report offering 106 recommendations on sharpening the impact, strengthening the networks and raising the profile of the Commonwealth submitted by an Eminent Persons Group (EPG) comprising ten distinguished independent Commonwealth personalities will also be taken up for consideration.
