Private operators have decided to keep their buses off the road from midnight today in protest against the Western Province Transport Authority's move to raise route licence costs and other charges.
Private Bus Operators Association President Gemunu Wijeratne said they had asked the Transport Authority not to increase these charges but received no favourable reply.
Therefore the bus operators had decided to launch a strike in the Western Province from midnight today, he said adding that the rise in charges would force them to increase the bus fares.
