The Joint Committee of Buddhist organizations has commended Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southern Province Crimes Bureau) Jayantha Gamage for the seizure of pornographic VCDs showing a man in yellow robes raping a woman and the arrest of three persons responsible for it.
The Committee has called for a full inquiry into the funding of the production of such offensive pornographic material obviously intended to discredit the Maha Sangha and Buddhism.
The JCOB strongly believes that an organized anti-Buddhist group is behind the production of these VCDs and does not rule out the possibility of aggressive foreign evangelists being involved in this despicable operation.
The Committee urges the strongest possible legal action against the offenders.
This was not the first instance that attempt to insult Buddhism was detected in this country. Earlier a hotel in the South was found to be displaying Buddha images in way that offended Buddhists.
