Nov 9, 2006 (AFP) - Sri Lanka Thursday suspended a private radio channel for broadcasting “sexually explicit” programmes about young people’s personal problems.

The Sinhalese-language Raja FM channel was shut down because it ignored requests to drop an agony aunt program called “Three hours with Sumali”, the government’s information department said.

“It has been proved beyond doubt that these programs are aimed at corrupting the young, especially the children, and to harm the dignity of women,” the department said in a statement.

There was no immediate comment from the station, but journalists there said they had used a professional psychologist to answer listeners’ queries.

There is no censorship in Sri Lanka, but the Paris-based media watchdog, Reporters without Borders (RSF) this week said Sri Lanka was one of the most dangerous places for journalists.

It's good that dey banned dat station, mann deres nothing dat we can listen to in sri lanka>>. No ROCK is playing on sri lankan stations..only dat nonstop shit..who can listen to a sound track that is like 45 minutes long?? n its da same beat!! nyway i'm happy abt it .. n dat sha FM is gonna get da same topiya too mann CAN SUMONE OPEN A STATION DAT PLAYS ROCK(any kind of) 24*7???
