Ranaweera who has been playing for the national team for the last two years is suffering from a neck injury and has been advised to rest for at least three months by Sports Physician Dr. Seevali Jayawickrama. The selection of the Sri Lanka squad for the Asiad has been put off for October 24 (Wednesday) at the request of national selectors Norman Silva and Hemantha Yatawara who were unable to be present for Saturday’s meeting. “Yatawara and Silva informed me that they were unable to attend Saturday’s Selection Committee meeting and as we were also not able to get the views of National Coach Rob Yule on the performance of the players at practices we decided to select the team on October 24 (Wednesday) after conducting a fitness test on October 23,” said Chairman of the National Selection Committee of the SLRFU Anton Benedict.
