Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) today claimed that a rock hurled at him with intent of causing serious injury instead ended up damaging the Buddhist shrine situated at the Party’s headquarters ‘Sirikotha’ during yesterday’ melee.
Holding the rock up at a press conference a short while ago Mr. Wickremasinghe said that he had plans to parcel it neatly and send it to the person who was responsible.
"I know the person responsible and currently we are making plans to send it back to him and the very earliest", he said.
He also called for more discipline and unity within the party and said that those planning to sabotage the UNP will never succeed.
The Sirikotha building and several vehicles were badly damaged after unruly mobs charged the complex shortly after it was announced that Mr. Wickremasinghe was re-elected as leader of the party in a secret ballot.
