Two people who participated in the secret discussions held between the government and the LTTE are still alive, says the Opposition and the United National Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
“One is George Master, the translator and the other is Daya Master. They released George Master and Daya Master as they threatened to release the documents and tapes which are in the possession of another if their lives are harmed. They had ties with all the others including Prabhakaran.” said the opposition leader.
Mr. Wickremasinghe who convened a media briefing yesterday further said that he did not receive an answer for the question that he raised regarding the secret discussions with the LTTE.
“On Sunday I revealed what was secretly discussed with the LTTE organization. We were hoping it would be revealed at the meeting in Galle yesterday. Since there was nothing to hide we thought they might talk of it. But they are quiet about it and have not even responded to it. But you cannot distance yourself from such issues.” He said.
Commenting further the opposition leader revealed that: “They met at other locations than in Geneva. So what was discussed? I asked why isn’t this being revealed to the public? When they accused me of handing over the North and the East through a deed to the LTTE, I responded to it.
"When we held discussions we did it in the open under the cease-fire agreement. We didn’t send secret representatives. We did not keep the country in the dark,” added Mr. Wickremasinghe.
