The stone cutting methods existed for a long time. If you visit Egypt, Greece, Peru you can see the similarities. Greece was 1500 years later than Egypt, but the workmanship is not so great as in Egypt. But they also have stone blocks weighing 160 tons. A couple of thousands earlier than Egypt, the Sumerians did it too. Sumerians were approx 5000BC. They had cuneiform writing. Their epic story Gilgamesh inscribed in clay tablets, mentions the great flood, story of the ark, which much later cane into the old testament. I don't personally think any of these civilizations had advanced technology. If you visit the stone quarries in Puma Punku (Peru) and Egypt you can see the obvious similarities. Have heard about Gobekli Tepe in Turkey? It was discovered recently in 1994. They also had massive stone buidlings - most have inscriptions - and T shaped. Gobekli Tepe is one of the oldest civilizations to be discovered - around 12000BC. As you say it seems to be simple for the ancients. It's the craftsmanship and the sheer manpower availability. Obviously they used their ingenuity. They possessed the engineering knowledge to build these structures. What you see in Egypt is simply awesome.
